My first walk

It was time to discover the Nikon D3300 and both its kit lenses. Even more important than that, I had to find out if I have what it takes to do street photography. After all, I can sympathize with people that might feel uncomfortable with someone taking photographs of theirs in the street. Nowadays people are too suspicious and I believe it is the responsibility of the photographer to make them trust the person behind the camera.

As expected, my first walk was a disaster. I walked around the neighborhood and went to the most traditional flea market in Lisbon, Feira da Ladra. I had difficulties getting used to the auto-focus and even more difficulties dealing with people too close to me. The good thing is that it certainly was a great learning experience and, even in spite of some discomfort, I felt like fish in the water.

d3300kitLet’s just say that I’ve always been a photographer but haven’t had any decent equipment in the last 15 years or so. Well, that has just changed… I recently bought an entry level Nikon DSLR, the D3300 with both the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm kit lenses. What was already expected to be a year of change (being 50 years old defies a man to accept new challenges), has become an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Having quit smoke in July, photography has returned to my life like a special gift for having been able to do so.

This blog will be about my learning process on everything photography related. The style, the decisions, the roll, the gear, the editing and everything else that a photographer has to deal with on a daily basis.

Hope you enjoy reading it and participating in the debates as much as I am enjoy starting this new blog.
